Not very common to see public figures openly addressing the upcoming end of the world according to the Mayan calendar. Julia Gillard not only addresses the issue but acknowledges it somberly as fact.
In reality, this was a skit for a popular comedy show in Australia, but plenty of people are wondering why she would agree to do something like this that could potentially be taken seriously. After all, in the United States, NASA and other government organizations have expressed concern publicly over people, a lot of them young, contemplating suicide in fears of the 2012 apocalypse. Is this joke in bad taste? Or is there no joke at all?
