EDITOR’S NOTE #2: Randy had a stroke while in treatment at the hospital. He underwent emergency brain surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. He made it out of the surgery okay but is still listed in critical condition.
EDITOR’S NOTE: We noticed that this article is getting a lot of attention today, despite it not really being about why most people are looking up this topic. This article discussed the insane meanderings of Mr. Travis in some very public and very unorthodox run-ins with the law last year. Today, it was revealed that Mr. Travis is in critical condition at a Texas hospital after being admitted Sunday sometime. His publicist has released a statement indicating that Randy has had complications from a recently acquired case of viral cardiomyopathy.
Viral cardiomyopathy is when the heart is weakened dramatically by the onset of a viral infection.
During this bad time for Travis, we won’t comment on whether his recent erratic behavior might have contributed to this current situation. We can all hope he comes through okay and lives to get naked in a church parking lot another day. Thanks for reading.
Washed up country singer Randy Travis has had a bad run the last year or so. First, he was arrested when police found him drunk in his car with an open bottle of wine after the Super Bowl. At a church, of all things. Then, last month, he made national headlines again with a bizarre DUI arrest in Grayson County, Texas. Apparently Randy wanted to go after Mel Gibson on this one. His 1998 Pontiac Trans Am had ran off the road and hit barricades in a construction site. Yes, we said a 1998 Pontiac Trans Am. Like we said, this “star” is washed up. In any case, after the wreck, he was lying on the side of the road when state troopers found him. Naked no less. From there, the situation escalated with Mr. Travis eventually having the added charges of making felony threats against police officers. According to the report, he threatened to kill the state troopers who arrested him, and apparently was pretty adamant about it.
Now, Travis is in yet another sticky legal situation. This time it’s simple assault, and police quickly pointed out that there was no alcohol involved this time. A step in the right direction, I guess. Anyhow, it is the lowest form of assault you can be charged with in Texas, and he was only given a citation and not actually transported to jail. Once again, a step in the right direction. Apparently he got involved in an altercation between a “friend” and her husband.
Now, this sort of behavior was once par for the course when it came to country stars. Remember the good ‘ole days of country music and the Outlaws like Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. Don’t forget George Jones’ famous drunken escapades. But Randy Travis could not possibly be farther from the “outlaw” image. He sang simple country songs, some with religious overtones, and up until his drunken adventures of late, was as squeaky clean as any star in Nashville. What has Randy Travis off the rails?
Drunken driving among celebrities is a common occurrence that continues to boggle our minds. Now, maybe in Randy Travis’ case, he couldn’t afford someone to drive him around or to call a cab. But Mel Gibson? Lindsay Lohan? Amanda Bynes? Cat Cora? The list literally goes on and on. And if you decide to deviate off into professional athletes, this could easily become the longest article on this site. What do these people have in common? Lots of money and 100% ability to find a better way. Obviously, no one has a really good reason for driving while intoxicated, and it can always be avoided, but for these people, it shouldn’t even be a possibility. They have every ability to not have to break the law, put others and themselves in danger, and to avoid so much embarrassment, not to mention the legal ramifications. And yet, they go right out and make this silly mistake over and over again. Silly, we say, until someone gets hurt. Then it isn’t silly anymore. Hopefully, Mr. Travis will finally come to his senses and if he wants to continue to get wasted, at least keep it behind closed doors.
